“Forget Siri, I am Bixby!”
“Forget Siri, I am Bixby!”
An AI (Artificial Intelligence) waiting for
your command, where we have seen that before? Well the obvious answer will be
in movies. For example, in Iron Man, where Jarvis was practically handling
everything for Tony Stark; his house, company and all other functions of Iron Man
suits. Somethings are more tailor-made for certain things like in this case of
Jarvis, it being a fictional character in Iron Man movie.
Bixby, are you different?
The modern technology is at that point where
we are can see the practicality of Jarvis into smartphone AI’s. We had Siri,
Cortana and now latest addition to the AI world is Bixby. But the question is
why it is so different from other Al’s? Samsung claims that Bixby, unlike from
its competitors, is fundamentally different because it will do different things
like when and where it can be used and what’s going on with your device
whenever it’s called to perform some action.
The team behind Bixby project is the same
team who first built Siri which was then acquired by Apple. I guess it won’t be
wrong if we say that Bixby has the same parents as Siri. Samsung claims Bixby
is different from the likes of Siri, Cortana and Google Assistant Work.
- You will not have to type anymore or just say anything
- Bixby will know what you are doing with your app and will give you a helping hand in terms of using certain application
- You can give any order to Bixby
How do you summon Bixby? On
the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+, there is a Bixby button on
the left-hand side of the phone.
I am Siri… here to help you!
OK! Thank you, Siri, but let me take it from
here. We are not comparing Bixby and Siri but the point is if we needed an Al
we would have switched to Apple long time ago. In fact, Google Assistant Work
is far better Al that a device could have but the question is why Samsung? You
are using Android based operating system and you already have Google Assistant
on your devices, then why waste so much resources by adding another add on
feature?
Injong Rhee,
executive vice president, head of R&D software and services at Samsung, said,
"Samsung has a conceptually new
philosophy to target this problem: instead of humans learning how a machine
interacts with the world, it is the machine that needs to learn and adapt to us."
We get that but where is the fun in that?
Paying so much for a new device (Samsung S8) and not able to learn and explore
it. Reports suggest that Bixby will be controlling TV, air conditioning, phone
and even it will change diapers of your babies which will be swell. By the
looks of it, Samsung is trying to connect all devices control by one. We are
guessing that’s another marketing technique to actually sell other Samsung
products. But who knows, we are just assuming.
I am Bixby and I will help you
Earlier reports have confirmed that Bixby
will be on the Samsung Galaxy S8, which was announced on March
29, going on sale around April 20th onwards. The dates differ in
different territories.
